constitutional rights shocking i know and then can twitter predict when people get sick and if so what's next whether trends maybe even armageddon here to give us some details on all of it and talk tech to me as r.t.f. producer andrew blake oh yeah all right andrew let's just start before we get into the mega upload stuff specifically and just tell me more about this this leaked report global anti-piracy strategy what does that look like. they're like a big international trade organization all over the world to different trade groups . from america and abroad obviously and they put together a finding every month that report just got leaked online. to get a copy of it and what it says in there is that out of all these websites that are file storage lockers so it's not really file sharing and you take a file you post it somewhere someone else can get it you're not sending it directly to a person out of all of those mega upload the u.s. government you know filed a grand jury indictment against mega upload is barely done anything wrong in the

eyes of the eye of p.r. which means a huge thing from a couple its case but that doesn't have it in comparison to the other site that they're right if you will to retire because mega upload was actually the largest and was at one point the thirteenth most visited web site on any given day in the entire world so there's no doubt that megaupload is absolutely the biggest one of these of file lockers of any other name i mean who are the names that actually ended up being the larger infringers and it's actually were because we wrote about this yesterday and some of them actually still exist including us based on file sonic w upload file server and for shared those are the top four according to their list but. we got back up a little bit so i'm sorry mega upload the indictment says that they've they've due to the record industry at least five hundred million dollars right however they are in their report what they when they went through a bunch of infringing u r l's like links that would send you to these illegal copyrighted pirated materials or they went through those and find out which ones

broke the law because under the digital millennium copyright act of one thousand nine hundred eight if you upload a file somewhere if you like the third party that do it you're fine and the person who hosts the file in this case may go upload under the d.m.c.a. they just have to take it down it said easy and they're down the no profits why google still in business that's why you tube still in business if it wasn't for that law you tube would be screwed but when it came to make the upload they found an easy target they found him dot com and he filed this indictment against him so i have p.r. they went over and they looked at a bunch of these file locker sites including mega upload and if you look at all of the big ones mega upload is only responsible for a fraction of these actual infringing your else because when they would get d.m.c.a. complaints and i'll pull over to actually go down to stuff so that i mean in that case that you actually got to speak with kim dot com you know when you're writing this piece for the story how does it feel then about the case that the f.b.i. is betting against the think that they're being unfairly targeted will he's going

to say that legally you can you are you know that this has all been going on since your narrative of some kind of proof i guess you could say well yeah but it is one thing after another like first it was just a couple of weeks ago that a judge in new zealand actually said that you did on his mansion that doesn't count that's unjust it's illegal you have to throw that out if you can't be charged in new zealand they can't extradite him to the u.s. so one by one the new. what's a good idiom to use here you've got one. you want to say i'm going to try to think of what. the last another great keeps falling out of britain keeps falling out of all sure so the case the f.b.i. has been kind of sucked. begin with and he knew that in the rest the industry knew that you were just recently had steve was came out from apple with apple's cofounders he said that it doesn't add up so now we actually have this report that was this was to come out here that says out of all of these all these sites some of them like excuse me for cheating looking at this graph but if you look at file sonic dot com they're responsible for half of those infringing u r l's in the top

and they are they still are up and running they're actually files on it is down they are a million and running but it has limited capabilities if you go on there you can't upload and distribute files you can access your old stuff some of them do still exist but file sonic out of all these in a frenzy or else they found they were responsible for half of them and the top four megalopolis number five the top four around eighty percent of these infringing are also the point being when i got was not the worst guy you were actually they were actually doing their dogs really interesting you know and i think that everybody out there she kind of should know that when you when you think about it and we'll see if the f.b.i. is case totally falls apart let's move on to another story. so you know obviously we see a lot of citizen journalism especially with the occupy movement lately we've seen a lot of protests like in and of time and we get to see these things because people record it on their cameras yeah and so the chief of police here and you see she had to just put out a legal memo memorandum when he was in the laughable to the police that the people

actually allowed to do that yes it actually said that they recognize the first amendment rights under the u.s. constitution which is kind of hilarious because you know it's the it's the first one that really shouldn't have to do your job is to protect people you should pretty much know you know what's happening with the country what it's founded on so we've police had to file a memorandum saying yes we were officers are now aware of the first amendment they know that you can actually you know if you being said or been examined here cable boggles my mind you know that at least on one hand it's a good thing you know that she that she laid it. under no circumstances to tell. they could stop recording people have the right to express criticism of police activity being observed i love that you know when i saw this yesterday the first thing i thought was ok this is great that this made it to the news it actually took off beyond a local level i saw it a couple of places yesterday because i mean i live in d.c. i was handcuffed maybe like three weeks ago for videotaping the police and i was

like well ok this is great it will get this out there but it really depends on the individual officers how they interpret it how do you interpret the rest of the law thing just happened like yesterday yeah less than twenty four hours after she filed this memo allegedly d.c. metropolitan police officer confiscated a cell phone and i'm sorry a camera and erased all of the week she was also one of the things that they are not allowed to do so they didn't have time to read it and then actually that's a whole other thing that's going to be able actually pathetic that she needs to put out a whole memo out there to remind police officers of the rights that we all have a day just like the media and the bystanders allowed to record whatever it is that they want and can steal their stuff even if you think that there's evidence there without their consent and you know people have to get in here who have to get the supervisor to see borders you know if you're not in this area people don't realize just d.c. borders of virginia and maryland in very peculiar places and as soon as you cross into maryland maryland does actually have bans still in effect for according to

police officer in one of the three states out there so yeah so it's this is great but people need to actually think about what they're doing still trying to politicize this let's do this well yes the police are rethinking what they're doing all the time let's do this last with really quickly which is that twitter can kind of predict when people are going to get sick and where i mean this is the little bit before you show symptoms a little bit a little bit. ok but obviously you know one of the one cup couple there is a whole gaggle of nerds they took a bunch of geo data from twitter they looked at a bunch of tweets and said ok these are all coming out of new york city they analyzed them for things like people saying oh i feel sick. they went through a couple million of these went through and met them out into manhattan versus they took out like i'm sick of traffic yeah actually they put a little bit of thought into this and they were able to realize that ok if you hang out with these people in the year they're in your circle of friends and they're tweeting if they get sick in there in this part of new york what are the odds that you're going to get sick down the road it's

lacking i.d.'s and republicans they seem to brush this office of weird conspiracy theory but one pennsylvania republican basically admitted it himself so take it away state representative. this is about making sure that every voting age citizen of the state of pence mean has an opportunity to cast years or older and make sure that it's not being defrauded this is about photo identification voter id which is going to allow governor romney to win the state of pennsylvania done. so if the law is allowed to stand and the swing state of pennsylvania just might swing sharply to the right this november and the rules are currently being challenged in state court an argument started yesterday and regardless of the outcome an appeal is likely but on top of that the justice department is investigating if this law disproportionately affects hispanics and blacks but then yesterday the philadelphia city paper reported the data indicates

this is the case that it's possible that over one point six million registered voters or twenty percent of the electorate will have state ids by november and a multi-racial philadelphia itself over four hundred and thirty thousand seven people would be without id that is forty three percent of registered voters in the city that's a city that overwhelmingly votes were democrats take the results in philadelphia county in two thousand and ten voters there prefer democrats for governor and the u.s. senate by a margin of almost eight to one so does that seem a little fishy to you because it smells like a big fat run today to me yet republicans still insist that it's all about fraud and it's state i.d.'s are not the only valid tickets needed to vote and fact governor tom corbett pointed this out today and stopping voter fraud is so important to him that he can't even remember how exactly you want to do it. and of course the maybe. we can work with the good there's evil to get

people to like the it could be military id. who is really very new to hear. why our what an eloquent defense clearly ensuring the integrity of elections really gives this guy up late at night but pennsylvania has election shenanigans do not stop there and democrats themselves aren't exactly squeaky clean either complicit in keeping a very tight grip on the state's political too awfully so the green party in pennsylvania has gathered six thousand signatures to get on the state ballot thus far and they still need about twenty thousand more but republicans and democrats will they only need two thousand signatures to get on the ballot so how does that work they already have a huge advantage in campaign funds the standing over smaller parties like a pair of giraffes on stilts but if that wasn't enough small parties pennsylvania they even even have to sweat bone marrow just to get to the starting line none of it really makes sense to me but maybe that's because i think we should only have a system that maintains the status quo of only republicans and democrats and the
